October 9th 2012 Cape Cod Bluefin Jig and Pop

If you've noticed some date gaps in the blog its thanks in part to the fickle nature of your New England fall weather. Finally got a break and was Hired by Curt, Bill and Kevin to take them for Bluefin on their vessel on Cape Cod. Had to iron out a few electronic issues on bills boat so we made it out to the grounds a little later than I would have liked. Once we got to an area I liked we began to watch for signs of life above and below the surface. To my delight only 5 minutes into our trip I looked over at the sounder and was treated to a parade of Bluefin right on the bottom.
I directed the boys to drop metal and get jigging. On the very first drop, only 3 pumps into it WHAM. We were tight!
These 45-55" class fish are a blast on spinning gear. A nice battle a little bit a sweat and Curt had us on the board with our first under of the day.
As the day progressed Kevin would hook up with 3 more fish and as luck would have it he lost all three on dropped baits. Shortly after Kevin lost his last fish, Bill shouted out "Im Tight!" followed by ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, That sound never gets old to me. Bill was casting a Ronz lure near the surface. This fish was scrappier than the first and rightfully so as once we got the fish boat side it was 56" curved fork length.
Big guy in the bag little guy on the deck, over under! Great Day!
